Quite sadly, Desktop computers still come with six or eight USB ports, arranged in both front and back sides of cabin; in laptop, the case is worst, because the maximum number you can expect is three or four. Even if there are three or four ports, there will only be one or two USB 3.0 ports, which is a bottleneck when you need speed. In case if you are looking for a solution — it’s USB Hubs. As you know, a USB Hub is a device that splits USB connectivity of one USB port into several ports.
By plugging in one USB hub, you will be able to connect a huge number of USB devices, simultaneously. Having the same principle of an extremely common power strip, it’s quite useful. However, you can’t just go and pick up a no-name USB hub, if you’d be concerned about safety and usefulness of your computer.
Here, we have created a list of top ten USB hubs you’d get. We’ve taken into account various factors — such as what customers say about the product, the connectivity standard, portability etc. When you choose one from the list, you need to be clear about your requirement, such as choosing between more ports and useful features. Well, these are the best market has for you.

To power all these ports, Juiced Systems USB 3.0 Hub is making use of a 12V power supply cord. It also has an all-in-one power on/off switch, which is useful when the hub is used as a charging strip.
The USB hub is comparatively smaller, which is a notable advantage. Price: $39.99. Where to Buy: 5. It also has individual LED indicators for each USB port, and you can know if there’s a data transfer process taking place. Price: $79.99. Where to Buy: 6.
AmazonBasics 7 Port USB 3.0 Hub AmazonBasics is a trustworthy brand when it comes to basic accessories for your needs! The case is more or less the same when it comes to the case of USB hubs as well. This USB hub is powered using an external power cord, but you can choose a bus-powered mode as well — if you don’t need an extra cable to be used. We have listed 7 port variant of the USB hub, but there are some other choices with fewer and more USB ports.
In this package, however, you get a power adaptor and the hub with seven ports. Out of these seven ports, two are Fast SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports and would give you the best transfer rates. You better not use AmazonBasics 7 Port USB 3.0 Hub for charging purposes, but it would do for extending data transfer.
The hub doesn’t offer much features, but does the job it is meant to. Price: $31.49. Where to Buy: 7.

In a home scenario, this hub may take up some space, but it’s quite productive as well, at the same time.
There are five ports on the front and two ports on the reverse side of the hub, which is quite ergonomic as well. These two ports on reverse side can provide an output of 1.2A, and you can use them for a quicker charging of your devices. Pros: It does the job it's supposed to.looks nice under the mini. Cons: unpowered. You will need a powered hub if your gonna use power hungry devices. The firewire ports are firewire 400, the mini's are firewire 800, which requires a different cable. Other Thoughts: I use this hub daisy chained off of a powered usb hub, then plugged into the mini. Plugged into it are three 500Gb drives in I/O magic usb enclosures. Absolutely no problems with the drives being detected or with one of them being selected for the 'time machine' back-up utility.
Also, I don't get the high frequency noise others have complained about. Pros: Sits nicely under Mac mini, plenty of USB port expansion, passive USB operation requires no extra power supply Cons: High-pitched frequency is audible when in operation, additional Firewire port is on front of unit (no Firewire expansion on back of unit), which is not practical for permanently connected devices. Although I consider the lack of powered USB a feature, some may consider it a con. Supplied Firewire cable is too short to connect an Intel-based Mac mini to the unit. Other Thoughts: This is a nice USB hub, but not very helpful for permanent Firewire expansion. I wish I would've read more reviews before purchasing as this particular item was non-refundable. The high-pitched whine noticed by some is definitely present in my unit and I doubt it would be resolved by an exchange.
The whine is a bit too noticeable to want it sitting on my desk, so unfortunately this one is going to end up in my closet a week after purchase. If Belkin updates this product for the current Mac mini, resolves the high-frequency whine, and adds Firewire 800 support (with additional port on the back), I'd happily revisit the product for its intended purpose. With this version of the product, I could only see myself using it to expand the USB ports accessible on my Airport Extreme down the road. Still in a closet, but performing a function an out of audible range! Pros: The hub fits perfect with my mini and creates some clearance from my desk surface for better cooling. Cons: The firewire is a bit short, but not much shorter than the external hard drive and hub from LaCie, yeah it is a snug fit, yet that is the purpose. Other Thoughts: I have a hard time believing the last review that the hub crashes.
I have not had mine long enough to test its endurance, so I won't be the judge. I cannot believe the other comments moaned about the length of the firewire cable. Maybe that is because it is designed for the mini. Come on guys, Belkin deserves better. I have a 4 port piece of plastic that does not stack nicely and is a mess and I have not once had an issue with it. Pros: Nice idea Cons: Lots of problems, connectivity, crashes Other Thoughts: Bought this mainly for a laptop with broken USB ports, but working Firewire.
Turns out you need to connect BOTH USB and Firewire to make this work. Decided instead to use it as expansion for the iMacs and G4s around the office. However, plugging into the USB cable into the iMacs knocked out all other USB ports (so no keyboard or mouse), and it simply hard crashed the G4s. This is true of 2 iMacs and 2 G4s. I appreciate it is intended for an iMac mini, but can a device as simple as this really be so picky?
